Karen TruszkowskiOf Counsel
Karen is the Lansing presence of the Vezina Law Group and functions as Of Counsel to the firm. She is the principal of The Temperance Legal Group, PLLC in Lansing, Michigan.
Karen is a seasoned attorney whose practice focuses on municipal law, personal injury, family law, civil rights law, probate, elder law, and related litigation. She has extensive experience representing students in civil rights cases arising in the public school setting and is a strong advocate for student victims of sexual assault. Karen’s previous experience includes working as a staff attorney with UAW Legal Services in Michigan, as well as private practice in Flint, Michigan, where she handled litigation primarily in the areas of municipal law, personal injury, family law, and probate. From 2007 to 2008, Karen served as a District Court Magistrate of the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Throughout her career, Karen taught elder law at Eastern Michigan University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In 2008, Karen joined Cooley Law School’s Faculty as Supervisor in The Sixty Plus Elder Law Clinic, where she handled numerous civil cases involving elder law. She also served as a volunteer attorney with the Common Ground Sanctuary in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and was a faculty supervisor for Cooley’s Service to Soldiers Program and the Disaster Relief Legal Association’s New Orleans Project. After returning to private practice and in recognition of her important work at Cooley, Karen was designated as Professor Emeritus of that institution.
Karen is a 1999 Cum Laude graduate of the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she served as the Comments Editor of the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review.
